History of The School
The Metropolitan College is an independent combined school, registered with the Gauteng Department of Education that offers tuition for Grades R – 12 classes. The school was established in 1994 at 76 Harrison and moved to 170 Pritchard street Johannesburg to date.
As stated in the vision and mission statement of the school, The Metropolitan College was established to offer quality education so as to produce literate, responsible, productive and law-abiding citizens after the realisation that the black child was deprived of quality education given by former Model C schools.
As the inequality gap widened between the have and the have-nots, a middle-class group emerged and the dire need for their children to access quality affordable education. In the former Model C schools, the astronomical fees excluded the black child.
It was then that the idea of creating an institute that closed that gap additionally strengthened its foundations in giving the best to the previously disadvantaged even in the big cities. Ensuring that the same opportunities, access to the best educators, a better learning environment, and access to technology The Metropolitan College remains the lowest in terms of school fees.
